#12 - 6/5/'15

As an IB student taking American Studies and American Literature, I was able to learn how to make insightful connection between these two courses. It is certainly interesting to see how these two different subjects fit together like puzzle pieces. Before coming to high school, I was resolute that these two had no correlation, but through the metacognitive blog, I was able to establish the bridge between the two, and was then able to analyze the significance of it. It is true that what I say on my blog posts is not all that great. Unlike my peers, I make rather dull connection, and it takes a while for me to really digest the information and produce it in my own words and thoughts. However, I believe that my ability to relate these two subjects along with my real life has definitely escalated since the beginning of the year. Although history is not my forte, I have learned to become a "thinker" and slightly more "knowledgeable", as I tried to intertwine the pieces from Studies and Literature together. I believe that this metacognitive blog has been an enriching experience for me, and has shaped me to become a better "historian".

  1. I too feel that this year has really allowed me to see connections between history and literature. Going back all the way to the beginning of the year, I remember not being able to tell them apart because we talked about such similar things. However, even as the classes diverged, I still was able to find connections. I'm glad you feel that you have improved, because that is why we go to school, to improve, but remember that what you have to say matters, and you ought not to put yourself down. Finally, I agree as well that the class has helped me to "think like a historian".

  2. I also find myself making connections between literature and history quite often. There are some lessons where I have a hard time remembering which class they were in when I look back at them, in fact, I sometimes mix up the classes when I am in them. I also feel like I have improved this year as a historian. My OPVLs were awful last year compared to this year. They used to take me about twenty minutes, now they only take me about 2. I have had a similar issue where I feel like my connections in class aren't as strong as some of my classmates, but I definitely think your connections have improved and you have made some really strong connections recently. Keep up the good work Daeho!

  3. Like Katie has said, your opinions and your ideas are valuable and should definitely be considered and I can agree with you. My connection between Literature and History was superficial in the beginning of the year and as time passed on I slowly was able weave the connections between these two subjects specifically on the topic of slavery and rights. I can also agree with Sara about the OPVLs and how we have improved a lot on creating them. I definitely do feel reminiscent of a historian and I definitely think you are one as well!

  4. Daeho your comments were always insightful in class, and like you in the beginning I couldn't find any connection they were simply 2 different classes taught by the same teacher, however as we went through the year I was able to connect more and more and find an underlying thought that the authors wrote about what was going on during the time, and finding this I hope I could find similar things in different classes.
